The February Blarney & District Person of the Month is Denis O’Mahony

Local man Denis O’Mahony is Chairman and Manager of Waterloo AFC, however many of you may know him in his professional capacity as greenkeeper at Blarney and Mallow golf clubs.

During Denis’s tenure as chairman of Waterloo AFC the club has been promoted from Division 2 in the Cork AUL to Premier A. Even more impressively when men’s football (soccer) clubs have been folding at an alarming rate across the city, under Denis’s leadership, Waterloo AFC has gone from strength to strength.

Through Waterloo AFC Denis and his family have, for the last decade, raised funds and awareness for Pieta House primarily through the annual Tony O’Mahony Memorial Tournament.

The club created a special kit with Pieta House on the jersey highlighting their commitment to positive mental health, suicide awareness and prevention and typifying, through this partnership with Pieta House, what sports clubs can do to contribute to their local community.

Denis’s tireless work, calm demeanour, and creative problem solving, is the life blood of the club and wider community activities.Denis f544acd7-cb59-4033-ad1d-468b0ce33302
