Cork Dance Club’s popular social ballroom/Latin American dance classes resume this week after the summer break. Classes take place every Tuesday at the Blarney Woollen Mills Hotel and at the Blarney GAA Club on Thursdays. A new beginners’ group is now commencing on Tuesdays from 7.15pm to 8.15pm at the hotel. “The beginners’ class will start with easy steps in the Old Time Waltz and will help you get used to dancing with a partner. We guarantee you will go home being able to dance. The next week will start with revision of last week’s steps and then gradually introducing other dances such as the social foxtrot, quickstep, tango, cha cha cha and many more,” Says chief instructor, Anne Hurley. “My usual strategy is to give you just enough of each dance to make it around the floor before going back to learn more steps in each one. That way, you can go out and practice as soon as possible without having to sit out the dances you have yet to learn.” “At the Cork Dance Club everyone is welcomed as a friend and quickly realises that contrary to what you may think, anyone can learn to dance. Many people considering dance lessons say they have two left feet. This could not be further from the truth. I don’t guarantee to turn you into a Fred and Ginger, but give you a serviceable pair of feet with which to enjoy your dancing for the rest of your life,” Says Anne., “Learning to dance brings with it increased confidence, not only on the dance floor, but spills over into all areas of your life, without you even realising it! The classes feature a mixture of ballroom, Latin American and fun dances in the beginners’ courses and we have regular continuation courses. Class socials are also organised on a regular basis wherein you can practice your newly acquired skills. Dancing has regained popularity owing to the success of Strictly Come Dancing and we’re all looking forward to seeing wee Daniel O’Donnell take to the floor this autumn on the show.” “Our club is all about having fun and making new friends. Cork Dance Club isn’t just about dance classes. There’s a great social life also attached to the club. The students meet up every week-end and attend various dances around the city and county together. We had to trip to Blackpool last year to dance in the famous Tower Ballroom and the highlight of this year was to dance at the Andre Rieu concert in Maastricht. Twenty members enjoyed a great weekend in Holland. Next on the agenda is a waltzing week-end in Vienna and a return trip to Blackpool.” For details of upcoming classes in Blarney, city centre and other venues phone Anne on 087 2487696 or email corkdanceclub@gmail.com
