It is great to see works commencing at the Blarney end of the Clogheenmilcon Fen with the overgrowth cleared away to recreate the waterways. This will pave the way for the addition of a boardwalk, hopefully later this year, to allow us all better access to the waterways where we can enjoy the views and the wildlife.
The works are being carried out under the guidance of City Council Engineers and their Biodiversity Officer, an environmental archaeologist, ecologists, and the Clogheenmilcon Fen Management Committee who all work within the guidelines of the Ecological Impact Assessment.
It may look quite disruptive while the work is being carried out and indeed for some time after, but as Tom O’ Byrne our local ecologist always tells us, disruption is good for the Fen flora and fauna.
