The October 2015 person of the well known and well liked local lady Kay Dennehy. As one of her nominees said, “Kay is a well known lady in the community. Kay is very obliging and helpful, and is there at any time to help a person out. Kay is a fantastic photographer and is part of Blarney Photography Club. Kay is a person that the young people of Blarney listen to and admire. Kay is a great friend to have.” Kay was one of the founding forces, and an active member of, the vibrant Blarney Photography Club and she is a member of Blarney Community Council. Last year, Kay started knitting and crochets classes one morning a week, which have become a lovely way to enjoy a craft and form and strengthen friendships. Kay also runs The Blarney Blog. Kay is a great friend to have, as this nominee tells us, “I would love to nominate Kay Dennehy for Blarney Person of the Month. She was the first friend I made when I moved to Blarney in 2009. She has been a huge support to me from the day I graduated college. When I told her I was pregnant in 2012 she was only delighted, she took my maternity photos, and that day I told her I was having a very special little boy. She didn’t pity me, she didn’t hug me, she said God wouldn’t have sent you him if you wouldn’t be able to cope. My son’s eyes light up when he sees her. When he was in hospital for a month at four months old she made me my favourite dinner to have in there.” It is through loving acts like these that good communities are made, and maintained.
