Following the conclusion of the race at approximately 11.30am the facility will be officially opened and then all visitors are welcome to walk the beautiful trail until 2pm. Everyone is very welcome, however this top class purpose built facility is NOT suitable for buggies, bikes or dogs.
For the third year our wonderful floral displays are up on lamp posts throughout the village. Working with Blarney Tidy Towns, these are a welcome addition to the village for tourists and locals alike.
The Chamber originated and sponsor BART (Blarney Area Rapid Text). This has been instrumental in solving several crimes this month, and notifying people of a spate of car and house break-ins. To sign up to receive texts and warnings from Blarney Gardai please call into the Garda station and give them your details. It works!
Blarney Joint Policing Forum was held last month. The Forum, facilitated by Blarney & District Chamber of Commerce, brings together An Garda Siochana, Cork County Council and local groups who work together to address any local concerns that residents may have. Among the issues raised were speed on various roads throughout the area, inadequate public lighting, issues concerning the footpath outside Kerry Pike National School, uninvited people ‘selling’ at your door, poor signage in the village, and antisocial behaviour. Superintendent Con Cadogan addressed the meeting, gave the local crime statistics for the past 12 months, and advised people to take the BART texts seriously, and to act on same. He also reminded people to pick up the phone, and work with the Gardai, before thanking local people for their help with recent arrests. Local crime statistics for the past year were as follows; sexual assault 2, minor assault 27 (up 11 on last year), drink driving 13, drug driving 1, robbery from the person 1, burglary 20, theft from vehicles 21, drugs for sale and supply 4, drugs for personal use 21 (up 7 on last year), possession of knives 7, public drunkenness 7 and public order offenses 10. Community Garda Sean O’Dwyer thanked everyone for coming and asked people to take extra care and leave their home looking lived in whilst they are out, to advise Blarney Garda Station if they were going on holiday and to look out for unusual spray paint markings on the road, and ring Blarney Gardai if you see same. He further asked people to take care when going walking and leave their belongings at home and reminded people not to put valuables into the boot, or to leave them within the car, as theft from cars is an ongoing issue. The next Joint Policing Forum meeting will take place in mid September 2015, and will be advertised in The Muskerry News, all very welcome.
