Congratulations to Sarah, Carys and Reece Murray who took part in the Learners Karate Competition in Navan Co. Meath last weekend. Sarah took home a medal for 1st place in Kata and 4th placing in Sparing in the aged 10 category while Carys Murray won 2nd second places in Kata and 2nd place in Sparing in the under 10 category. Meanwhile Reece Murray won 1st place in Sparing and 2nd place in Kata in the aged 7 category.
The Parents’ Association have equipped the school with a Defibrillator which is housed in a cabinet outside the school door. The names and contact details of First Responders is attached to the front of the cabinet. Fionnuala Carroll, Chair of the Parents’ Association said, “She is delighted that such an essential piece of life saving equipment is at the communities disposal and is committed to its up-keep and maintenance.”
The students from Vicarstown NS will be one of 12 schools going forward to the National Finals of the 10th Our World Irish Aid Awards to exhibit their projects in Dublin Castle on the 16th of June. They are the only school in the final to represent Cork. The Our World Irish Awards are designed to help children in Ireland understand global issues, and Ireland’s role in working to meet the United Nations’ Millennium Development Goals (MDGs). These goals focus on fighting hunger and poverty and improving the lives of those in the world’s poorest countries.
