The October Blarney & District Person of the Month is Shane Roche.
Shane Roche is on the Irish Olympic weightlifting team and travelled to France and Romania earlier this year competing for Ireland. Training as a full time athlete from his ‘second home’ at Cork Weightlifting Club where he trains under coach Mike O’Leary, Shane is also on the UCC Team and trains them on Friday evenings. A full time student studying chemical science in UCC, Shane is at the gym twice a day, six days a week and puts his heart and soul into all that he does. Receiving no funding from Sports Ireland he makes many sacrifices in his bid to make his dream of going to the Olympics in LA in 2028 a reality. Shane, who lives in Courtbrack, recently won the Cork Open for his weight division breaking the National Junior / Under 23 records and matching the senior record in the snatch category.
