Demolition work has started on the site of the former Sunset Ridge Hotel in Killeens. The hotel ceased trading several years ago and has been an eyesore in the locality since it was damaged in a fire last year. The hotel had been boarded up in recent years since it was gutted in a suspected arson attack last year. Planning permission was granted earlier this year to Oshawott Limited for the construction of 43 residential units, a pharmacy, and medical consulting rooms. Local councillor Damian Boylan who celebrated many family occasions in the popular local hotel, including his own 21st birthday, was on and to watch the building come down saying, “It is good news for the local area. It will be great to see the renewal of Killeens. Planning has been granted and 43 houses are going to be built. Killeens is in a great location. It is right between Blarney and the city. There will be great demand for the houses without a shadow of a doubt.
