How many times have you heard your teenagers saying, ‘I’m bored!’ Well this might be the answer. Footlights Youth Theatre, open to the young people of Blarney and surrounding areas, has been in operation since 2009, and is a place for young people aged 14+ to come and put their imagination into practice. The weekly workshops consists of lots of laughter, role playing and use of the imagination, as well as team work, writing and rehearsals of the yearly performance. This is a great, safe environment for your teenager to experiment and be themselves. Youth Theatre is also known to help to develop the young person and boost their confidence levels. It provides a place for them to meet new friends and to assert who they are. This is a great way to engage young people in a creative pursuit. Another fantastic aspect of Footlights Youth Theatre is that it is a great way for young people to express themselves, and gives them a platform to explore issues creatively. Footlights is a non commercial organisation and is run by a dedicated volunteer committee, made up of parents and the students who attend the workshops. Footlights is affiliated to NAYD Dublin. The workshops take place in Blarney Community Hall (the Old Convent) on Tuesday evenings from 6.30pm to 8pm.
