Come Dance With Us!

With most Covid restrictions now lifted, we’re all looking forward to meeting up with friends and socializing again. None more so than the members of Cork Dance Club who practise and learn their ballroom and Latin American dance routines each week in Gaelscoil an Ghort Alainn in Mayfield. The students really missed the comraderie in the classes and and socialising at the week-ends. We did organize zoom classes for the students during lockdown, which was a help to them, but there’s no comparison to actually taking part in a group class, says tutor Anne Hurley Cork Dance Club now run classes in the Gaelscoil on Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays and hope to start a brand new Introductory Beginners Class on Tuesday April 19th from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m in the Gaelscoil which is a fantastic large airy hall for dance practice and the school has ample secure parking. Whether you are an Absolute Beginner wanting to learn all your Strictly favourites, or an existing dancer wanting to refresh your technique for social dances or holidays, we have it all at Cork Dance Club, adds Anne You don’t need any experience or partner to get started and you’ll have this knowledge for the rest of your life!  So, whether you fancy a bit of socialising or want to get out of your home or head space for a while then why not try us out. Our classes are run in a fun and friendly atmosphere where everyone is welcome ! The beginners’ class will start with easy steps in the Old Time Waltz and will help you get used to dancing with a partner.  We guarantee you will go home being able to dance.  The next week will start with revision of last week’s steps and then gradually introducing other dances such as the social foxtrot, quickstep, tango, jive and many more.  Our strategy is to give you just enough of each dance to make it around the floor before going back to learn more steps in each one.  That way, you can go out and practise as soon as possible without having to sit out the dances you have yet to learn.” says Anne Ballroom dancing has regained popularity owing to the success of TV shows Strictly Come Dancing and Dancing With The Stars, so whether you have a company dance to attend, you want to dance at your wedding, or you just want to be a casual social dancer, there is a suitable class for you. The classes feature a mixture of ballroom, Latin American and fun dances in the beginners’ courses and regular continuation courses are also available.  Dancing has numerous benefits , gentle exercise,  personal satisfaction, a new circle of friends and an improved social life to name but a few! Numbers in the beginners’ group are limited so book early to avoid disappointment .
