Excitement is building as eleven ‘Blarney Person of the Month’ winners are in contention for the overall 2019 title, which will be announced at an awards ceremony on January 18th at The Castle Hotel, Blarney. The awards reception will be attended by more than 150 guests, including the 11 monthly nominees for 2019.
“This is the 10th year these awards have been running and, with so many worthy nominees this year, our judges have had a particularly difficult job on their hands,” said Kate Durrant who organises the awards with John Henchion and Cllr Damian Boylan.
The awards aim is to recognise achievement, leadership and altruism in community, sport, business, arts, family or indeed from any sector or activity in the local community so that others may be inspired to follow.
The nominees this year include Lord Mayor of Cork Dr John Sheehan, committed Blarney United Football Club coach Greg Constant, marathon runner Craig Sykes, Blarney Toddler Group leader Ruth Hockey, talented Irish basketball player Amy Murphy, Anne Lynch nominated for her kindness and commitment to patients at Pharmacy First Plus, MMA fighter Ryan Spillane, Cor Gael founder Betty Fitzgerald, local lollipop lady Jill O’Keeffe, singer songwriter Mick Flannery and popular Blarney lady Esther Ruby.
