Once again we have a very proactive Active Schools Committee for the year 2019/2020. The Committee have set up a schedule of monthly meetings. They have organised a number of activities such as Walk to School on Wednesdays, Wake up Shake up and 10 at 10 scheduled throughout the academic year. They are committed to reminding everyone to keep active no matter the weather or time of day.
We are focusing on STEM Education for our School Improvement Plan this year. As part of our whole school approach, each class will have STEM box with project cards and all the required resources to undertake activities. The focus will be on student led learning whereby students will select project, gather required materials( eg build a bridge), discuss roles of the group: Leader, Time Keeper, Recorder and Presenter, and utilise different media for their findings. We will also be utilising coding throughout the school in an age appropriate activity with 5th and 6th classes continuing to compete in the VEX IQ Robotics programme.
Well done to our footballers on the recent Sciath na Scol competition where we made a semi final against Ballycotton. We’ve also entered teams in the boys and girls Mini 7s competitions. The boys and girls have all trained so well this year and carried themselves in the most sporting of manners. Maith sibh go léir!
