Summer Leagues Updates. While many of our age groups are taking things easy for the Summer our under 11 and under 13 groups have been playing in the Mid Cork Summer League. These leagues are a great opportunity to get some game time for girls during the summer and are a huge learning experience for many of the girls.

Under 11’s We had a great start to our summer league with a 2 point win over Nemo Rangers. This game was played on pitch 5 on a super summer evening where plenty of water breaks were taken. We then played Bishopstown in Mid July and this was a tight affair. We were 1 point ahead with time almost up when Bishopstown scored a goal on the final whistle. What a game and so disappointing to lose. Final score Bishopstown 4:09 Ballincollig 5:04 Then onto the final group game against Carrigaline this week. Thankfully things went our way and we came away with the win. The win puts us into the semi final against Bishopstown to be played in the next few weeks. Well done to all the girls, including those from the Under 10 group who have played in the last few weeks.

Under 13’s The under 13’s group played St Michaels in their first league game of the Summer League. Down in numbers our girls fought hard to the end and showed great determination. Then it was onto our next game against Macroom which was played on Pitch 3. This was a very strong Macroom team and although our girls gave 100% it just wasn’t enough on the night. Final score Macroom 4:08 Ballincollig 2:07 The final game for the under 13’s was against Grenagh this week and with a physically stronger team Grenagh came away with a win from that game. Great match experience for our under 12 girls who will be playing under 14 next year so well done to all our girls and to the coaches and mentors for all the hard work.

Junior Team Update What a fantastic performance from our Junior Team recently to take a win against a fancied Kilshannig side in the 1st round of the Championship. Down 2-3 to 0-1 at half time , a half-time team talk by Manager Paddy Lucey spurred on a 2nd half performance where our girls dominated the half to come away with a win. Final score Ballincollig 2-6 Kilshannig 2-4.

Under 10’s Our under 10’s group played in their first Summer Blitz at the beginning of July. This blitz was hosted by Carrigaline and we played teams from Donoughmore and Carrigaline. Well done to all the girls. Speedy recovery to Makayla who went off injured near the end of the last game.
