Blarney documentary thrills viewers

It seemed the entire village was glued to RTE last Sunday night when the documentary ‘OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAey – A Year on the Estate’ aired. The documentary was a joint project between Blarney Castle & Gardens and AV3 Media, a production company based locally in Cork. The documentary was directed by Peter Carr, who is an illustrious documentary maker with a fantastic history in that field. The project was a first for Blarney Castle & Gardens as a behind the scenes documentary has never been done, and AV3 were granted unprecedented behind the scenes access to capture exactly what goes in to running one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions. The documentary gave rare insight into the running of the various departments contained within the business, and previously unseen access to the stunning 60 acres of gardens in Blarney and the incredible work the team does. It showed the devastation of Hurricane Ophelia, the ongoing conservation project with Vietnam and the general day to day jobs undertaken by the team. Head Gardener Adam Whitbourn describe the benefits of the documentary as ‘a fantastic opportunity to share some of the behind the scenes action. I hope it will give people an insight into the workings of the estate and help to showcase the beautiful grounds and world class gardens’. ‘Blarney – A Year on the Estate’ was a very enjoyable, family friendly show that highlighted the extraordinary work and dedication of the owner and all the staff to keep Blarney Castle & Gardens one of Ireland’s most popular tourist attractions.
