Busy week ahead in Coachford

There’s a very busy week ahead in Coachford as Echolive reported, with one very special fundriaser for local man John Kennedy. “Coachford will rally behind a local who was tragically paralysed in a freak accident at his home last year. Some of the proceeds from the annual Coachford five-mile road race and four-mile family race on Thursday, July 11th will go toward supporting local John Kennedy who was left paralysed from the waist down after falling from a ladder while reaching for tools in his shed at his home in Carrigadrohid near Macroom in October of last year. John broke two vertebrae in his back and the fall has proved a life-altering event for the once active member of Coachford Cycle Club. The highly-anticipated road race was voted as the best five-mile road race in Cork in both 2017 and 2018 and also features a non-competitive four-mile family walk with online registration available. The race and walk are part of the five-day Coachford Family Festival which includes several events from Tuesday, July 9th – 14th, culminating in a day of family-orientated events at Coachford GAA grounds on Sunday, July 14 including a vintage car and tractor rally. Event spokesperson and Coachford local Jerh O’Sullivan said this year’s family festival is shaping up to be the biggest yet with proceeds from many of the events going to good causes. “We have lots of family-based events and a lot of the proceeds from the family fun day will be going to various charities. “The race caters for runners but also incorporates a fun four-mile walk for families, kids, buggies and even dogs so there is something for everyone,” he added. Full details of events can be found at the Coachford Family Festival 2019 Facebook page.
