Busy start to the year for Scoil Chroi Iosa

February turned out to be the mildest for many years. The leaves were budding, daffodils blooming and sleeves were rolled up in the yard. February is a real solid month for getting work done in school and the children did not disappoint. Despite the brevity of the month there was still plenty action in our school. Ms. Hayes and Mrs. Coleman’s ‘Green School Committee’ were busy planting pots and wildflowers. This years theme is ‘biodiversity’ and we aim to reduce the environmental footprint of our school.

Mr. Burke, Ms. McPolin, Ms. Walsh and Mr. Hegarty have been very busy prepping our Laochra Gael for the upcoming Sciath na Scol campaign. Thanks again to Mr. O’Leary of Blarney GAA for providing us with all weather facilities to train on.

In mid-February, Noelle O’Connell CEO of the European Movement of Ireland visited her Alma Mater to witness a mock European Election. The children prepared admirably learning all about the European Parliament, the various parties and their Irish affiliates. We in Scoil Chroí Íosa always strive to bring the curriculum to life. The democratic election saw Érin Hickey of 5th Class elected by over 100 of her school mates to represent our school in Europe.

World Book Day 2019 was celebrated by our school. Mrs. O’Connor and Mrs. Corkery organised book displays, biblio-quizes and a fancy dress competition. Thanks to both teachers for helping to instil the gift of reading in our children.

Well done to the children of 2nd class who participated in the Sacrament of Reconciliation recently. Wonderful preparation was undertaken by the children and their teachers. We are very proud of the children. Our school has a core Christian ethos and to that end we strive to enable every child to develop academical, emotionally, physically and Spiritually. We celebrate diversity and recognise each child as a unique individual.

Our school has recently updated our Twitter account and begun posting on Instagram. Follow us on @blarney_ns on Twitter or @scoilchroiiosa on Insta’ for regular updates. As a school, it is crucial to communicate our vision and ethos.
