Disappointing turn out to Blarney Community Council AGM

There was a disappointing turn out to last month’s Blarney Community Council AGM, with less than 25 people in attendance. Thanks were paid to the outgoing committee of Kevin Conway, Tom O’Dwyer and Sean Foley, who agreed to stay on to help the transition of the new committee members of Adrian O’Connell, Joe O’Callaghan, John O’Donoghue and Raymond Dennehy. According to Denis Kelly, Muintir na Tire spokesperson in attendance, at least 14 people from the area are needed to form a mandate for a community council, and suggestions were made that the council should revert to the original intention and format of co-opting people from different geographical areas to form a truly ‘all village’ council. Blarney Community Council is affiliated to Muintir na Tire and governed by their constitution. Further developments with regard to this are expected to follow subsequent to the first meeting of the incoming committee.
