Inniscarra Camogie Club makes club history

Inniscarra Camogie Club is making club history next month by travelling to Berlin with its U16 team. They will play non-competitively with a select group of teams from around Germany in a Youth League Event, as well as providing mentorship and coaching to those teams with the help of coach Fergal O’Leary. U16 Inniscarra Camogie Club manager, Liam Ryan said “Let’s lead the way in what girls can aspire to when they are part of a camogie club.” And so that is exactly what the coaches are doing! Setanta Berlin Club are instrumental in this initiative as they are hosting this very first German Youth League event, with teams arriving from Hamburg, Frankfurt, Berlin and Munich, as well as the Inniscarra U16s who will be one of the main attractions at the event. As part of the trip, the girls will also visit the Nelson Mandela School. This school has over 25 nationalities including students from Brazil and Yemen so it’s an amazing opportunity to promote the game to an international audience with a key emphasis on participation from girls in sport. Sinead Kavanagh, PRO of German Camogie, has been of huge help on the German side while Sheila Lyons and Linda Hughes have been doing sterling work alongside Liam to make this trip a reality for the girls and the club. The squad has been fundraising for the trip to Berlin and on March 9 they will participate in 1,800 laps of the community pitch in Ballyanley, representing one lap for every kilometre of distance from Cork to Berlin. With the club going from strength to strength, the sky is the limit for its players and coaches. New members are welcome and can register online on the Clubforce platform with great ease. The club will also be celebrating its successes of 2018 on April 6th at the Oriel Hotel, Ballincollig.
