Busy and productive month for Ballincollig Tidy Towns

Sunday Litter Picks continue and on Sunday 28th October they had 23 volunteers including two transition year Gaisce students. The usual areas were covered over the hour and when finished they had collected 13 bags of waste and 3 of recyclable materials. During the week previous they had a number of volunteers litter picking in the Town Centre area each morning and on the road to Poulavone. From those picks we had 4 bags of waste and 4 bags of recycling. The CE/Tús work group were sorting the litter waste, removing the remaining summer flower baskets and the collection of leaves. Work is also ongoing on the bedding area at Flynn”s Road and bindweed removal from the beech hedge at Pairc Cul Rua which will make a big difference there. In other works, leaves were collected from seven estates with 73 bags sent to compost, the residents of Fionn Laoi did another litter blitz around the new loop walk there and cleared 6 bags of waste, hopefully this new amenity will be respected by users. Footpath repairs were also happening in Muskerry Estate to replace some damaged areas. In the Pride in Our Community 2018 Awards BTT received another award when the new compost site in the allotment was judged to be the winner of the Best Project in a Large Town. If you are interested in joining them any Sunday just come along to Quish’s SuperValu West End where they meet up at 11am for our weekly litter pick.
