Superheroes, artists and hungry worms at Vicarstown National School

Congratulations to Hannah Lucey, 6th class, who was the winner of the Scholastics Superhero Competition. Hannah’s story was selected by Alesha Dixon from 1500 entries to the competition. Hannah won a signed copy of Lightening Girl Superhero Squad, by Author Alesha Dixon, and €30 worth of books. Well done!

Parents and teachers alike are very impressed with the super artists we have in the school. We are being treated to images inspired by autumn and fun self-portraits on the notice boards.

We dug out the potatoes from the school garden last week. The gardeners found that this exercise was akin to finding buried treasure, and a few days later, everyone got to sample fried garlic potatoes, what a hit!

We were delighted be awarded funding from the Local Agenda Partnership to buy a Hungry Bin Worm Composter. The composter will replace our compost bin. Many of the pupils are already acquainted with worms and of the wonderful work that they do. Mr. Donal O’Leary, Waste Down will give a presentation on how to operate the composter when it is delivered next week and we are looking forward to using an alternative way to deal with domestic waste.

Past pupil raises the cup and spirits! Many thanks to Aileen Sheehan, past pupil, who dropped into to see the pupils with the winning cup from the Cork victory at the All Ireland Camogie Final. Well done to the team, may they have many more years of success!Aileen and cup
