World Champion Sanita rows into Scoil Mhuire, Ballincollig

If you had arrived into Scoil Mhuire Ballincollig one Friday last month, you could be fooled into thinking that St Patrick’s Day had come early, such was the sea of green white and gold flags in the school yard.

All the Pupils in Scoil Mhuire were anxiously awaiting the arrival of local hero, and World Women’s Rowing Champion 2018, Sanita Puspure, and what a  welcome she got.

Sanita arrived to a whole school rendition of ‘Congratulations’, closely followed by ‘You are the Champion’, before being officially congratulated by School Principal Mairead Ní Mhurchú who pointed out that, whilst she was always a champion mum to daughter and Scoil Mhuire pupil Daniella and son Patrick who attends nearby Scoil Eoin, she was now a World Champion Rower as well!

Pupils from 4th class recited a poem they had written for her, and presented her with a copy, before a quick question and answer session with Sanita which the pupils felt definitely helped prepare her for Ryan Tubridy on The Late Late Show that night!

The biggest cheer came when Sanita told the pupils that there would be no homework on Monday, and the school is already looking forward to Sanita making a return visit after the Olympics in Tokyo 2020.
