Scout leader is Blarney & district person of the month

The August Blarney & District Person of the Month is Will Roche.

‘I would like to nominate Will Roche as Blarney person of the month. Will agreed to step in as Group Leader (Chairman) for the 45th/62nd Blarney Scouts in 2005 at a time when Blarney Scouts was on the verge of closing due to a lack of adult volunteers. Will is still our Group Leader today and is as committed as ever, and his expertise and quiet dedication is a major reason why the fortune of Blarney Scouts has seen such a change. Since 2005, the hall itself has been improved, the gear owned by the club has been modernised, improved and increased, the group is on a firm financial footing, there are now 2 Beaver and Cub sections and the group now welcomes boys and girls from 6 to 26 years old. Will works affably and constantly in the background, dealing with so many aspects of Scouting from adult recruitment, to administration, to maintenance, and repair work. He has overseen many group camps at home and abroad, and is an indispensable help to all adult volunteers in the group. Will is also the County Treasurer for the Lee Valley Scout County and always gives his time and expertise generously. In addition to his Scouting escapades Will is also involved in other charities especially the Mercy University Hospital Foundation where he is a director. He also advises the Wellsprings organisation on various issues.

Will is a perfect example of, and embodies, the Scout law A Scout is kind and considerate of all.”
