Blarney Karate Club WhatsApp Image 2018-06-16 at 13.40.03 (2) made a major break through at the 7TH WUKF World Karate Championships when their squad of nine competitors won one gold and eight bronze medals. This is the ultimate competition for Karate exponents throughout the world and attracts 2700 competitors from 42 countries. The standard of Karate was amazing, and it was an honour to even be selected to compete for Ireland and all performed magnificently. Our bronze medal winners were Rebbecca O Donnell (17), Victoria Kingston (17), Shivon Sabu (10), Grace Lynch (8), Siona Sabu (8), Brian Lynch (6) but pride of place must go to our new World Champion young Shimeka Sabu who at only 5 years of age won gold and bronze in the under 7 category. Deborah O’Donnell and Keegan Spillett (8) were outside the medals on this occasion but their day will come. Coach Liam Griffin said, “We have produced many fantastic medal winners since we opened our doors at the T.A. Hall in Station Road almost 40 years ago in 1979 but this is the best squad ever and we are so excited to watch them grow and develop to their full potential.” Curam de Cara hold weekly classes in Christy’s Health Studios, Blarney, for Boys, Girls, ladies and gents and new members are always welcome.
