Heritage, lively debate and check mate at Vicarstown National School

Discover Cork, Schools Heritage Project. 5th and 6th Class and their teacher, Mrs. O’Shaughnessy, have put a lot of work into their Discover Cork, Schools Heritage Project on ‘The Moving Graveyard in Matehy.’ If you would like to see a small glimpse of the project have a look at www.vicarstownns.com under the school activities tab. Although most of the pupils knew some of the mythology relating to the moving graveyard, everybody has learnt so much more about the local area and the graveyard in general. The project is currently being assessed by the Cork City Heritage Office and we are looking forward to hearing the outcome over the next few months.

Ficheall Bunscolie Chorcaí. 3rd – 6th class pupils have spent many the wet lunch break battling it out over the chess board during the winter. Now 16 of our pupils will participate in Ficheall Bunscoile Chorcaí. The final teams are being formulated and we look forward to the challenge of this new venture into Chess playing at the school.

Concern primary school debating competition. Our debating team proposed the topic ‘Children under 14 should not be allowed on social media’ against Coachford National School. They won the debate so now they will go onto to face Rushbrook opposing the topic ‘People should be fined for not recycling.’ We wish them the best of luck!

Irish Dancing. All of our pupils enjoyed their Ceili Dancing Classes this morning. It was the first time that most of them tried Irish dancing and they all really enjoyed it. They will be in top form for Seachtain na Gaeilge this year.

Credit Union Quiz. Congratulations to our U 13 class team who won the recently held Credit Union Quiz in Blarney Secondary School. Our U11 team came 2nd in their category, which was a great achievement also. The U13 will now go onto ‘Chapter Level’ which is the next round in the Quiz tournament at the end of March.29 graveyard model
