Busy year draws to a close at Vicarstown National School

We are very proud of our Debating Team from 5th and 6th class who won their debate against Carrignavar National School earlier this month. They opposed the motion that ‘Everyone should become a vegetarian to help climate change’.  Well done and congratulations to Miriam Hegarty, Tom O’Callaghan, Rebecca Murphy, Saoirse Hennessy, Tadhg O’Sullivan and Hannah Lucey.

The Annual Christmas Bazaar was a huge success on Sunday 26th of November.  There was a great atmosphere with live music and a fantastic Christmas flower arranging demonstration.  Much thanks is due to the Parents’ Association who put a huge amount of work into the event.

We are all very much looking forward to our school Christmas Concert. This will take place in Ballyanly on Thursday 21st of December at 7pm. All welcome! Tickets are available on the door on the night.

Our 5th and 6th class enjoyed some really good scores at the recent quizzes which they attended. The 6th class team were pipped by just 1 point by Cloghroe for 3rd place in the Clogheen/Kerrypike quiz out of 30 teams.  Meanwhile both of the teams came out in the top 5 at the Primary Science Quiz held in UCC.  We are looking forward to sending a team to the Sciath na Scol Sports Quiz in the Rochestown Park Hotel from 4-6pm.

All of the classes in the school had lots of fun with experiments for Science week.  Rang Glas measured the amount of sugar in fizzy drinks while The Nutty Professor visited Rang Gorm.  Rang Oráiste tested the strength and other powers of balloons. While Rang Dearg and Bán Dearg found out what happens to oranges when they are put into water with and without their skin.
