The Gab is a a storytelling community based in Blarney. We host a monthly night of story and song called The Gab Mixtape as well as other storytelling related activities like workshops, competitions and special events. Our storytelling adventures have brought us to many wonderful venues in Blarney and Cork but we had our first unofficial Gab road trip to the wilds of North Kerry over the August bank holiday weekend. Three of our storytellers Rae McKinlay, Maria Gillen and Paddy Regan took part in the Mick McCarthy storytelling competition which formed part of the 21st Seán McCarthy festival in the small town of Finuge outside Listowel. We were treated to an absolute feast of storytelling. The icing on the cake was when our very own Gabber Maria Gillen won 3rd prize for her enchanting story about the 3 nourishments of the road. Our next Gab is trad special as part of Heritage Week. We have been lucky enough to team up with some local musicians to enjoy an evening of traditional and folk stories along with traditional Irish music. The venue is AlphaSud, Blarney, Co.
