Double delight for Muskerry as U13s and U18s lift league titles. On April 23rd our U18 team had a comprehensive victory over Sunday’s Well at the PBC grounds to clinch the South Munster U18 League. After a controversial exit from the cup the Muskerry boys were not to be denied, winning by 68-5 and playing some stunning rugby in the process. The team is coached by John Horgan and captained by Lewis Grice and they have also qualified for the final of the U18 Plate and will hope to add this to the trophy cabinet also. On the following Wednesday night in Ballyanly, our U13 team defeated Dolphin 17-10 in front of a huge crowd to claim the U13 South Munster League. This team has won 32 games from 33 this season with their only defeat being at the hands of Dolphin, and this was a fitting finale after a gruelling season. The team is coached by the ‘dream team’ of Mick O’Connell, Jim O’Connell, and Ed Wall. Great credit is due to both sets of players, their coaches, team managers, and their parents for their support throughout the season. U13s jet out on tour to France to face elite French team Just two days after their thrilling league win the U13s jetted out to Toulouse in south western France and from there made their way to the city of Albi. The touring party, lead by coaches Mick O’Connell, Jim O’Connell, and Ed Wall, consisted of 26 players along with 30 parents. Muskerry played against the local team Albi who had no doubt had heard about their league success and were bristling for the challenge. The Albi side “SAC: Sporting Club Albigeois” who are part of a professional club were big boys, but were pushed all the way by the mighty men of Muskerry. Before departing the group also took in the sights of this historic city, and enjoyed some water sports.
Thank You! As the 2016/17 season comes to a close Muskerry Rugby Club would like to thank all of the players, supporters, sponsors, and parents, for their participation, help, and encouragement during the year. We look forward to seeing you all back in September when we will be unveiling our new state-of-the-art pitch in Ballyanly.
