The official opening of Sli Geal 3.5km Health Walk in Whitechurch took place on Saturday March 22nd in the Community Centre. The ribbon was cut by local County Footballer Paidi Kissane to set everyone off for a brisk walk around the walkway and Councillor Noel Costello unveiled the detailed sign with a map of the walk. He said that the Community Association had obviously put a lot of work into this fantastic amenity and he was delighted that the Council had contributed to this project. The walk was followed by a presentation by the Irish Heart Foundation of a Heartsafe Community Award to Whitechurch Community Centre. The award was presented by Ann Riordan, Regional Manager of IHF to Fiona O’Riordan, Co-ordinator of AED training in the Centre. Over 100 people have been certified in CPR & Defibrillator training in the area by Fiona, Tim Foley, Jason Kelly and Dr Lucy Fleming. Ann thanked the team for all the work they put into training people, purchasing a defibrillator and the opening of the walkway was another step to keeping people and their hearts healthy! Chairman of Whitechurch & Waterloo Community Association, Donal Hegarty thanked everyone for coming out on a good ‘Fresh day’ He thanked everyone involved in the walkway development, Cork Co. Co. Whitechurch Foroige and the local Lotto, without which many of our facilities would not be possible. He asked people to support the local Lottery, as it is the main fundraising activity. He thanked the AED committee for all their work and Paidi Kissane and Cllr Noel Costello for doing the official duties.
