Junior and Senior Infants, 1st and 2nd Class paid a special visit to Ballincollig Fire Station.  They were fascinated with the tour and learnt some very useful tips about how to deal with a fire. There may even be some future fire fighters among the pupils as they were so impressed by the work that fire fighters do.

Proclamation Day and Seachtain na Gaeilge. We celebrated many aspects of our fantastic Irish Culture and History during the week leading into St. Patrick’s Day. We kicked off with a Traditional Irish Music session where the music was provided by Mick Looney and his fellow musician Sam O’Brien. Irish was spoken among pupils and teacher alike throughout the week culminating in the awarding of the gaeilgeoirí na seachtaine from each class. Bhí an spórt againn! We drafted our School Proclamation and read it along with the original Proclamation from 1916 followed by a Flag Raising Ceremony at 12noon on the 15th of March. All of the pupils were gathered at the remembrance ceremony and respectfully acknowledged the great sacrifice that was made by our ancestors to make our country what it is today. Seanfhocail were illustrated and we closed our celebrations with everyone wearing the colour green to school on the last day.

Aistear. A big ‘Thank You’ to Mr. Paddy O’Leary who visited Junior and Senior Infants to talk about ‘The Supermarket’.  The pupils are really benefiting from the Aistear Programme and know more about how the food chain works.

5th and 6th class launched their new cookbook ‘Vicarstown Vault of Secret Recipes’ on March 11th.  The launch was a great success and was very well attended.  There are some fantastic recipes in the book and it is fun to read.  If you would like one of the few remaining copies, please do not hesitate to get in touch with the school by e-mail or by phone on 021 7332179.
