Vicarstown National School students are Our World Irish Aid winners

The Minister for Development, Trade Promotion and North South Co-operation Seán Sherlock TD joined pupils on January 12th to launch the 2016 Our World Irish Aid Awards. Fifth and sixth class students from Vicarstown NS along with their teacher, Áine O’Shaughnessy, were named overall winners of the Our World Irish Aid Awards 2015 at the national final held in Dublin Castle. Congratulations to all involved in this great achievement.

matehy 4 mile posterEveryone is looking forward to the Matehy 4 Mile Run which will take place on Sunday February 28th at 11am. This promises to be a great family event where walkers, runners and families are welcome. Come on out and enjoy some fresh air and exercise. Aistear ‘The Doctor’s Surgery’. The pupils from Junior and Senior Infants enjoyed a talk from Dr. Ray Mulready who explained everything about life in the Doctor’s Surgery as part of the Aistear Programme in January. A big ‘Thank You’ to Dr. Ray! This month we are going to do ‘The Supermarket.’

5th & 6th class had a great time at the Lifetime Lab primary science workshop last week. Their sessions covered energy, light, sound and wind. All students carried out experiments in circuit making and they made musical instruments. The session was enjoyed by all.

We were delighted to welcome new families who are interested in joining our dynamic school community here at Vicarstown during our open day and evening. There was great interest from new families in the school and we look forward to welcoming our new pupils in September 2016 and beyond.

Sports. Everyone really enjoyed the SkipnRope workshops which were held in the school for all pupils during the week. Well done to the girls in 3rd & 4th class who participated in a Sciath Na Scol Camogie Blitz in Bishopstown, the 5th & 6th class boys who took part in the Spar FAI 5 aside soccer tournament in Blarney, and the 3rd/4th class team who played in the Sciath Na Scol indoor hurling blitz.
