Donoughmore mother, Amanda Power, was crowned Irish International slimmer of the year in Liverpool last week, whilst up against 16 countries. Amanda is the first female to win and the first Irish International slimmer. Amanda told us, “I set my heart on succeeding for the sake of my kids. For years my weight has always been a battle due to being diagnosed with Graves disease at 13. I had tried various diet solutions to try and get my weight under control, with varying success, and in 2008 I was finally doing it with the help of Cambridge Weight Plan. However disaster struck in May 2009, I needed two operations on my back. The second operation caused serious complications, leaving me at the young age of 21 with a permanent catheter among other medical problems. “I couldn’t cope, so I just ate and ate, it got harder to do any normal activities. Eventually I moved on with life having two children, a little girl in 2012 and my little boy in 2013. I was getting so fed up with life, I couldn’t play with my children, cloths shopping was not the fun it was meant to be, my weight and having to dress to hide my catheter bag, meant I was just left depressed. “On 4th January 2015 my journey with Cambridge Weight Plan began (again). This time however I set my heart on succeeding for the sake of my kids, I didn’t want to be a fat mammy. With the amazing support from my consultant and my family along with seeing the weight fall off each week I had the motivation I needed to keep on track. Now after losing almost 10st I am finally living my dreams.
