Donoughmore Macra have certainly had an eventful month! They beat off stiff competition from six other clubs to take home the prestigious Macra Club of the Year title at this year’s Muskerry rally. This title recognises Macra clubs’ achievements throughout the year, and is the highest accolade a club can achieve. Throughout the last month, the club has been put through its paces as they prepared for the competition. Obtaining the title involved last year’s top table participating in an interview two weeks ago in the Portlaoise Heritage Hotel and completing a presentation at this year’s National Conference, affectionately known as the Rally, held in Rochestown Park Hotel. This year, the rally was hosted by the Muskerry region. On Saturday evening of the Bank Holiday weekend, seven clubs did a presentation on their club in front of a large crowd. The Donoughmore club were presented with a cheque of €500. It was a truly remarkable year for the club, between strengthening ties with the Donoughmore community, gaining sixteen new members and creating the innovative feeder club within Coachford College, the country’s This was not the only competition Donoughmore Macra had representatives in. Diarmuid Lee was in contention for Best New Member, while Edel O’Connell and Alan Twomey competed in the sheep stockjudging.
