Congratulations to Mary Twohig who was the August Blarney Person of the Month. Mary has been the mainstay of Blarney Tourist Office since it was opened by Blarney & District Chamber of Commerce five years ago when it transpired that the village tourist office was not going to be re-opened that season. With almost 500,000 visitors coming to Blarney each year, Mary ensures those that visit our Tourist Office receive a warm welcome and the answer to almost every question they can send her way. Most importantly, and a fact that may not be realised by many of us, is that it is largely due to Mary and the staff at the Tourist Office, that in addition to advising the visitors about tourist attractions in the larger Cork area and beyond, Mary also encourages visitors to find their way to our local shops, bars and restaurants, which keeps business local! Mary also takes great pride in the Tourist Office itself and makes sure that it draws both visitors and locals inside by overseeing, and always being receptive to creative window displays and art exhibitions which prove very popular with both tourists and Bord Fáilte alike.
