Ballincollig Youthreach learners proudly presented their grand design bird boxes to Pat Clarke, vice-chairman of Ballincollig TidyTown’s committee. In total, eighteen boxes were made including Blue Tits and Sparrow boxes. Woodwork teacher, Niall O’ Connor stated that, “Learners and staff at Ballincollig Youthreach are delighted to contribute to this worthwhile competition and learners were actively engaged in this process.” History and Communications teacher, Breda Dennehy, pointed out that the national TidyTowns initiative was launched by Bord Fáilte, the Irish Tourist Board (now Fáilte Ireland), in 1958 and that around 700 communities take part in the competition annually. Ballincollig has won the Regional Gold Medal in its category for the past three years running.
