A weekend of Championship Finals in Neptune Stadium saw Ballincollig ladies play in the Division 2 and Senior Finals. Both teams played their part in two of the best finals over the weekend. Division 2 final. Ballincollig v Donoughmore saw a game that went down to the wire.With little between the teams in a tough first quarter Ballincollig trailed by one point. The second quarter saw Donoughmore increase their lead to five points with Ballincollig battling hard to stay in the game. The third quarter saw Ballincollig get into their stride and turned the deficit of five into a lead of one point entering the last quarter. Ballincollig held onto the lead until the final two minutes to when their opponents took the lead. Ballincollig pushed the opposition to the limit but failed by four points to get the victory their efforts deserve. Disappointed to lose this game, the team gave everything on the court and can be proud of their performance. Senior final. Ballincollig v Skibbereen was another hard fought game which has become the norm between these two sides. Skibbereen opened the scoring and edged the first quarter by three points. Ballincollig while staying in contention struggled to get their game to the level expected of them. Losing by six at half time Ballincollig went into the third quarter needing to up their game. They improved their position entering the fourth with an improved performance trailing by three. While never playing to their potential Ballincollig continue to work hard. Living on scraps Ballincollig proved that if you keep working, the breaks will eventually come your way. Taking full advantage of the chances that came their way Ballincollig outscored their opponents by nine points in the final quarter to win the game by six points. A never say die attitude and a outstanding team ethic is the true strength of this team where all the squad played their part at different stages of the game.
